Welcome Knitters!
Hi
all,
It's June 2001 and I finally knit something. Four weeks ago,
the days were warm. I wanted to prepare for summer. It's now 50
F!
Will I ever wear this top?
Well, August in Chicago is certain to be hot.
I knit this top using directions I created using The
Knitting
Fiend program. You can create directions in your own size!
The top is knit using Yeoman Brittany, which is a 100%
cotton yarn.
The welts are knit in full needle rib. The body is knit in a tuck
rib using a Passap stitch technique.
I've set this first order page to tailor the 2nd
page to create
this top-- at least as much as it is possible to do right now.
To make this vest, exactly like mine, you must
make a few modifications
to the second form. I will eventually program in the appropriate ease
for
a sleeveless top, but right now, we are adapting a cardigan program!
So, find the appropriate boxes, and make these changes
on the second
form.
-
Swatches:
-
Pick a main stitch that spreads a lot compared to the "welt"
stitch.
That will cause the bottom to draw in nicely at the waist! (Otherwise,
use the "hip rib shaping preference and make this draw in however much
you like.) I used a tuck rib for the "main" stitch pattern and
full
needle rib for "welt" and "button band" stitch patterns.
-
Knit your 3 swatches, and type in the welt, main and button band gauge
information. I won't tell you my gauges because I want you to knit your
own swatches. It's important!
-
"Style Selection" table,
-
Set the sweater length to 19". (Yes, this is short!)
-
Increase the bottom ribbing (or welt) depth to 3.5"
-
"Upper Torso " table,
-
Decrease the shoulder ease to 0".
-
Decrease the chest ease to 1.5".
-
Decrease the hip ease to 2.5".
-
"Armhole and Shoulder Slope" table,
-
Decrease the armhole depth ease to 0" and the armscye ease to
1.85".
(You don't want armholes to reveal too much. Now do you?)
-
Record information your needle choice etc. in the "Additional
information"
table.
-
When knitting, ignore the sleeve directions! I finished the armholes
with
one row of single crochet.
Have fun!
