  • My Favorite Links From The Knitting Fiend!

Because my web based software helps you chart your own sweater, I like knitting pages with design ideas.  I incorporate these ideas into my designs.  You can too!

I surf the web to find  stitch patterns, pictures of sweaters, web based magazines, hand and machine knitting techniques, tables of body measurements, information about knitting machines and of course, yarn  to knit or crochet.  Remember: surfing is free; use it to gain inspiration!

I'd like to add more useful links.  If you know of a good link, suggest it.  Give me a brief description of the key reason why a knitter should visit the site!

    Knitting Yarn

I only list stores with attractive prices or unique products!
yarns-and.com This yardage table translates all those mysterious numbers like 2/24 wool!   The page also discusses a number of fiber terms.  Yarns-and.com also carries pretty much every yarn in existence.  So, if I don't carry it, check them out.

Bonnie Triola.  I'd love you to buy all your yarn from me.  But I only sell a few types.  Bonnie has really, really good prices on designer over runs.

    Directory Listings

When you are doing a major search, it's good to visit the directories first.  Afterwards, so a word search on the search engines.  Here are some links to take you straight to a convenient locations in some directories.
LookSmart  The LookSmart directory will show you the numerous links to a whole bunch of knitting directories.
Yahoo: knitting & crocheting Yahoo's sends people to check out web sites.  They reject a lot of sites, so many are interesting sites missing.  On the other hand, all of these are about knitting and crocheting.

    Measurement and Design Information

Fiber Gypsy This page contains numerous size charts. There are tables for infants, children, Men, and Women! It even contains a link to standard sizes for table cloths and other miscellaneous items.
Nashville Knit and Crocheters Guild This page indicates the amount of chest ease for various degrees of fit from "body hugging" to "oversized".
Kidoodles More charts of standard sizes. This one includes kids, men and women. Ease allowances at the bust are also provided.
North Tipton Creations: Roz's files This page has a link to standard size charts from the National Bureau of Standards. Also includes a recommended ease table; once again, for bust and chest ease.   It has so many other tips/techniques and other links that I had to list the whole thing. Actually, the whole site is great, but it's my policy to list only the "highlights".

    Information about Knitting Machines

Angelica's Angelica Burles has compiled a list of every knitting machine ever made.  Her site also provides lots of general information about knitting machines.
Distinctive Knits Learn about the new Artisan knitting machines.  Distinctive Knits has compiled a handy table with stitch gauges for a wide range of yarns.  Why not type in their gauge information to generate a pattern? Then, you'll be able to check whether you have enough needles before you buy they yarn.
