Unshaped, Hand Knit, Short Row Heel

Can be knit plain or as argyle socks!

From Lucia Liljegren, The Knitting Fiend.

When you click the submit button, this page launches a program to create a detailed pattern of hand knitting instructions for a seamless Argyle sock.  Although the socks aren't difficult to knit, the pattern is extremely detailed and consists of 3 sections:
    • The sock shaping directions.
    • The details directions for knitting the Argyle leg.
    • A technique page describing some special techniques for preventing holes at the edges of the Argyle.

Some site visitors may just want to print out a pattern to learn how to knit socks in general. The sock shaping directions includes pictures of a number of knitting techniques common to many patterns, and the phots are pretty clear.  If you skip the Argyle leg section and just knit around and around, guess what? You get a plain sock!

If this is your first visit, scroll down and click the "submit" button!  The program will run with the default values-- that is, you'll get the pattern for the sock I knit for hubby (illustrated above.)  See what appears. Just do it!

To get your own pattern, come back, change some numbers to  make the sock fit you and to use your yarn, and click submit. You'll get a different pattern.

I was going to make people pay, but I decided against it.  The program is shareware. If you like it, and especially, if you knit a sock, please donate.

Good luck.  (You'll love this sock pattern.)

It's easy.  After you customize, you click any submit button on this page; the patter will appear in this window.  If you want to edit your setting, use the back button on your browser, to return here, edit, click again.

Click this now and you'll see the default pattern: . Then, use your back button to read the rest of the directions to customize.

To create your pattern, input data into the form below.   Note: You must have javaScript enabled to read the final pattern.  If it is enabled this box will say "ok".

The from is pre-filled with sock size data. The default sock size corresponds to small ladies sock knit with fingering yarn. (The small lady is my mother-in-law. She is 4' 10" tall. She has small feet!)  If you don't change the numbers for the foot size or gauge, that's what you are going to get! So, do change them.
