Welcome to The Knitting Fiend!

Jim In SweaterRead what I'm working on now at my blog. If you have knitting questions, visit The Knitting Fiend Forum "unofficially" opened on 2/1/2006. You can now share comments and ask questions about using the generators there.

My web site is about designing your own patterns to fit you!  I have all sorts of web based programs and tools.  But, you really need to visit the blog to keep up to date. I maintain that every day, and visit this page about once every two months.

If you have questions, email Lucia

What's here?

So far, my site contains generators for:
  • Sweaters: This link will take you directly to the sweater generator design form.  You'll find each sweater shape is charted using the same sweater generator design form.  Different shapes are achieved by selecting different neckline toggles, body shaping etc. You can see pictures of sweater on these pages:
  • Teddy Bear Sweater. You can see the teddy bear sweater, and learn to choose the correct setting here. (Thanks Lola Luster for suggesting this.  It is my most visited design page!)
  • Pullover Sweater:   See me wearing a "standard" pullover with a crew neck.
  • The v neck cardigan See me wearing a V-neck cardigan.  At 27" long, it's longer than standard, so you will need to edit your input.
  • Sleeveless cardigan.  You'll see a summer top I finished on June 5, 2001! I ran the program with the V-neck cardigan settings, shortened it and used the hip-waist settings.
  • Turtleneck sweater with sleeves knit in a fancy stitch.  I test knit this sweater, and it looks great.   I made the turtleneck extra deep and only sewed it partially.  If you visit the page, you can see me model "semi_drop" sleeves look like.
  • Cable V neck vest. This V neck vest can be knit on any knitting machine.  The neck is hand manipulated.  I explain all techniques to make this vest.
    • windsor
    • Dog Sweater.  Free once more!

    • Windsor was kind enough to model the dog sweater. Edie Greiveldinger knit the main portion of the sweater in stockinet; she crocheted the welts.   Edie also added the loops to hold the flap down.  The dog sweater is a tube with a sort of flap at the back. The circumference decreases near the neck. I recommend you choose a very stretchy stitch so that you can put it on a wiggly dog. I need to add this picture to the program page.  I'll be adding schematics too.
    • Easy Generators: if you are puzzled by the idea of a generator, visit these pages. You'll see that the knitting directions adapt to your size and gauge.  Recalculating the number of stitches and rows is what I call "generating" the pattern.  The best way to learn is to change one number, and see how the directions change.
      • Headband.  This head band is a great beginner project.  If you are a beginner at using the pattern generators, it will give you practice entering numbers and creating your pattern.  If you are a beginning hand or machine knitter, it's very simple pattern!
      • All the ponchos! (and now capes too.) This is pictures of all the 5 types of ponchos, capes and capelets.
      • Slipper & Sock index: Self lined  machine knit slippers, hand knit slipper boots, hand knit argyle socks, machine knit socks (used as the lesson at Passap club.) More MK slippers.
      • Purse Index: A lunch box shaped felted purse both machine and hand knit versions available.
      • EZ sweater.  (It's the generator that is less complex than the full generators.)
      • Hat index (Includes: Jester, three corner, earflap, newsboy, knit or crocheted beret, cloche, bucket hat.)
      • Mittens:  I have two types-- both machine and hand knit.  Plus gloves.  Mitten & Glove index.

      Miscellaneous:

      • Knitters Graph paper generator.  When drawing stitch patterns, you need graph paper with the correct proportions.  Depending on you stitch technique, you may get any proportion from 1 row/1 stitch to 2 rows/1 stitch.  If you want to see what your stitch pattern will look like when it's knit, draw it on correctly proportioned graph paper!
      • Conversion page. Do you just want to figure out how to convert the number of rows and stitches in one pattern to another pattern.  Go here to learn how.
      • Links: Why should I keep track of links when Charlene does such a good job?
      • My a blog!
      • Catalog size information: Women & Men, children.

The following have not been test knit.

      • Turtleneck Dickey. This is a turtle neck dickey pattern.  I have test knit this! I need to take a picture and put up a photo.

    Lessons:

    Miscellaneous

  • Robert and David's sweaters.  This is just pictures.
  • My favorite links. This has links to knitting tips, techniques, & yarn.
  • A free pattern for a stole type shawl.  This will eventually include programs to help you draft your own stole.

  • I hope you aren't having problems with my page....

If you have any difficulties with my pages, or have questions, contact Lucia by email. Sometimes, I can fix things. Unfortunately, sometimes I can't. But, I always want to know.
