rick rackPixie Slippers

I needed some last minute Christmas gifts, so I decided to knit slippers.  These lined slippers are really easy to knit. Just knit, fold, sew the inseam and voila! You can make them in any size using any yarn your single bed machine can  use.

The pattern generator on this page will create a pattern for you. It  also lets you pick a few design features.  You can choose "pointy " or "xtra pointy" toes, and you can select "plain top" or "rick rack" top.  The slipper shown is a "pointy toe", "rick-rack" top version.

I have loads of knitting patterns, visit my blog to find out about new ones.  I also try to keep index pages. You might find what you like at the ones on this incomplete list:

Create your slipper pattern.

To create your slipper pattern, specify the length of the slipper and the stitch and row gauge for the yarn. The program will generate your instructions.  If you don't have a specific wearer in mind, don't worry too much.  Any slipper will probably fit at least 2 different shoe sizes!

Follow the instructions below, and I'll create your directions.

Enter your shoe size
Type in your shoe size and this portion of the form will fill in the wearer's foot length.  (For those unfamiliar with US shoe sizes: stores carry size Women's size 5-12 and Men's size 7-13.) The program is sometimes stubborn for the first entry. If the foot size doesn't change, type the value in again.

Please use US sizes.

US Shoe Size:
Estimated foot length:inches.

Enter length and width of knitted slipper.
The values you enter in this form will be the final length and width of the slipper!

If you want the this program to recommend a size based on the shoe size you entered above,  click  "standard". The program will fill in the appropriate slipper length for this style.

If you want to pick your own slipper length, click "custom", then enter length you want.  (Metric users, you may ignore the "inch" information and just do everything in cm.  It will work out ok.  Obviously, the US shoe size information is probably useless to you too.)

Custom  Standard  Slipper Length: inches.
(Does not include the toe point!)

Enter Gauge Information here
You can customize the pattern for your exact yarn gauge or you can just guess the gauge based on the yarn type.

It's up to you to pick the yarn, and tension. I have no idea what you are going to pick, so I can't recommend a tension. Do write it down for future reference though! (Frankly, I make slippers from left over sweater yarn. So, I always know the gauge very precisely.  I would probably never knit a gauge swatch for slippers; I'd just guess.  The slippers will fit someone! )

Bulky  Worsted  Sport  Fingering

Probable gauge:
st/inch
row/inch

This column shows the gauges that will actually be used to design the slipper pattern. Click "custom" if you want to use your own gauge. Click standard and the form will copy the numbers in the boxes to the left.

The page lets you select to toe styles: Pointy and Extra pointy.  See the photo's above! Toe Shape

Knitting Directions

Your knitting directions should appear in the small blue window. You need to click a button to open the window and later click the refresh button to fill the values each time you edit your slipper pattern.

If you closed the blue window:

  1. Click this button to open the window:
  2. After the window opens, click this button twice to refresh the numbers in the blue window:
  3. Pull on the corner of the small blue window to make it bigger.
  4. Refreshing the window works with my versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape. I can't get it to work with Safari.  I don't know why.  If you try clicking  madly, and it doesn't work, give up. (Sorry.)

To verify that the window has filled, the number stitches and rows in each step of the directions should match the ones below. If they do not, close the blue window, then open and refresh.
