    Welcome Knitters!

I knit this sweater from The Knitting Fiend directions. I chose a cotton blend yarn knit at a tension of about 6 stitches/inch. You can run my program to draft your own sweater. Go ahead! Change the neck type, sleeve type, sweater length, and stitch gauge.

To use my program, you will need to know some vocabulary. My sweater program assumes you will use two types of knitting stitches. The two stitch types are called the "welt" and the "main" pattern stitches.

  • The "welt stitch" is used for the neckline and the cuffs. I used a 2 x 2 rib in light pink. You may use any non-curling stitch. (What's a welt?)
  • The "main" stitch is used everywhere else. I used a two color fair-isle pattern that looks like abstract roses to me.

  • Here's some advice: Many people understand the choices on this page better after some practice. So, why don't you make some choices here. Click the "Send Style Information" button. You'll be sent another form. Fill out that form to the best of your abilities. Click the "order" button. Print the directions and read them. Some of the choices on this page may be clarified.

    Have fun!
    Lucia

How to create your own sweater.

    • Visit the "Order Form" page.
    • Read the instructions.
    • You will probably want to use the "estimate" feature:
      • Select Estimate under "function".
      • Click on the "style" button.
      • Enter your bust, hip and chest measurement etc.
      • Pick your style choices: The ones I picked for the sweater shown here are: Crew neck, fitted sleeve, pullover, long sleeve, straight body pullover. Don't worry about the others yet.  Pick what ever you like and learn by running the program.
    • Click Submit.
    • Wait a little while. The program is "guessing" your arm length, shoulder width and some design features for your style choices.
    • When the program has finished "guessing", you'll know....
    • Now, click on the gauge button.  You will need to add your stitch gauge.
    • You could just click "submit".  You'll get  a standard size sweater for your chest and hip size.  But, if you want to customize your sweater, click on the various measurement forms.  You'll be able to change things like your shoulder size (mine are narrow, so I edit this), arm length etc.
Click to visit the "Order Form" page.

    Good luck,
    Lucia.
