Which is better: Low Carb or Low Fat Diets?
Neither. At least not when it comes to controlling type two diabetes.
Some studies have shown that low-fat diets are better for controlling diabetes; other find low-carb diets are better. The results keep flip-flopping.
But one factor is known to be relevant: weight loss itself results in decreased insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance. The exact proportion of carbohydrates, fats and protein may be less important.

What has worked best for me is everything in moderation along with a good exercise program.
Weight Master (new comment) - August 15th, 2007 at 11:16 amI’m surprised at this because I would have thought that a low carb diet would be helpful to those with type 2 diabetes. I wanted to read more, but the link doesn’t work. Anyway I agree with the above comment that everything in moderation along with a good exercise program works wonders. However I have found that for quick loss or weight loss when your bodyfat is already low nothing beats a low carbohydrate diet. I usually cycle from 200-100-50-50-0 grams of carbs a day and repeat that cycle 4-5 times. You’ll be amazed at the results.
Cash Crate (new comment) - August 15th, 2007 at 4:33 pmI think Low Carb and Low Fats are both good alternatives for food we eat daily but one should see accordingly to his body behavior.
Armand Rousso (new comment) - August 28th, 2007 at 1:01 amfor me it`s easyer to do low carb than low fat. in the end most important is to feel good.

Patrick (new comment) - September 24th, 2007 at 9:28 pmWell, I’ve found that low carbs is doing the trick. I have my completel diet diary and how I’ve lost almost 45 pounds in just the last two months over at my site. Just click on my name on this comment.
Saphrym (new comment) - October 14th, 2007 at 1:36 amI’m really glad that I don’t have diabetes… but I’ll tell you what, the low fat diet works wonders if you stick to it. It’s not eating anything that looks delicious and good that kills you. But hey, it wouldn’t be a diet otherwise would it?
Jerad Kaliher (new comment) - October 19th, 2007 at 5:26 pmCutting out anything will only serve to reduce the amount of food you take in. In the short term this might result is loss of body mass but the body will compensate and slow the metabolic rate. The only solution is to balance your dietary habits and increase the amount of energy expended. It’s not fast but it does work.
Lord Matt (new comment) - October 21st, 2007 at 3:48 amThats why i don’t do dieting at all hearing that the study flip-flopping, just eat healthy food and youll be alright

MontAcademy (new comment) - April 1st, 2008 at 12:57 amGood question, many people are uninformed on this topic. If anyone is interested, I wrote a post titled “3 Reasons Why You Should Eat Carbs.” Hope this helps!

Miguel Wickert (Pineiro) (new comment) - May 4th, 2008 at 9:46 pmI was looking for some information online. And came accross your blog. It contains a lot of useful information. Disappointed to find out that you last posted July 2007. You should start again!
I was overweight for a very long time. Now that I have lost the weight (70 pounds), I keep wondering with the permanent dammage I put myself in turning my life around. Recently I injured my knee, and turns out it is a meniscus problem that was able to happen because I had dammaged my knee with being overweight for so long. Luckely it can be fixed, while I swim, instead of do fitness. This little mishap made me start researching what other things I am still at risk for, and how I perhaps could do more to prevent further dammage to my body other then me keeping the weight off, and working out. Diabetes being one of them.
NLP Training Life Coach (new comment) - May 18th, 2008 at 1:03 pmHey all, the best way to achieve lasting weight loss is to stop eating, just kidding.
The low carb diet is or was popular because “Lowering carbohydrate intake may help to lose weight only if the carbs are simple (sugar).
The problem with most low carb diets is lowering both simple and complex carbs. Reducing complex carbs (beans, potatoes, whole grains, etc.) will deprive the body of essential nutrients needed to sustain life for daily activities and so on.
The best option, change in life style which relates to ones eating habits and activities.
Miguel Wickert (Pineiro) (new comment) - May 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pmwe should all know by now that diets and slim pills don’t work, studies shows that the human body has this fat threshold that when you try to starve your self it will defense the losing of fats to make you survive, and once you got fat that is, the threshold increases, so it’s near impossible to be thin continuously when you’re in the overwieght stage.
i think the biggest contributing factor of obessity is LAZINESS. well for milleniums ago, people were hunting, treking mountains and running like a wild man.
Today if you may ask? what are people doing?
sitting on the couch, riding a bus a train and a car. having helpers in their homes and yes all the equipments and devices that makes life that so simplier [hello Japan]
with that comes the boom of fatty cells stored up in all of our arse. lol
so if you really want to get thinner by the inches, go back to the lifestyle of being active. MOVE a lot and burn calories. that way no matter how much shiyet you ate you get to be in shape.

I have tried both low-fat and low-carb diets and I have to say that by far, low-carb works the best. It also works the best for energy, too… at least for me.
If I eat under 100 carbs a day, I typically have a lot of energy and I can lose weight so much faster. I used to count calories and now I just count carbs.
Hope (new comment) - June 4th, 2008 at 5:52 pmBoth are good for me since I tried and both give me quite a nice result =]

מיתוג אישי (new comment) - June 23rd, 2008 at 5:37 pmI wish you like in your diet.
I don’t believe in diets. I believe in much physical activity + healthy food (that means no too fat, too spicy, too fried, too synthetic things) - the more natural the food is, the more “usual” for the climate where you live is is, the better:)
Polina (new comment) - July 9th, 2008 at 7:36 amI like low fat because I think it is healthier for you, but I think if you are very obese, you should go low carb and work your way to low fat.
True Diet Reviews (new comment) - July 22nd, 2008 at 6:40 amI tried the low carb diet before and I did lose 10 pounds. However, I always felt like I had no energy and felt tired…. It’s also a hard diet to follow since everything seems to have carbs in it.

global resorts network (new comment) - August 13th, 2008 at 3:50 amI am in favor of the low carb diet. Here is a little tip.
1. Choose protein-rich foods that are low in saturated fats. Diets that are high in saturated fats or trans fats may cause people to become more sensitive to carbs, and regain more weight after the diet.

Jak Szybko Schudnac (new comment) - August 29th, 2008 at 4:27 amI have started my diet and work out for 2 weeks now, and I think, your body knows whats best for you, so it’s really up to you to asses yourself when it comes to that and my Gym instructor said, that what you need is a proper program of exercise and eating always in moderation. We must always remember that Discipline is something that we should always consider. Stay Healthy Both in body and mind always.

Everyones body is different. I find that a diet rich in fiber works best for me. Stay away from ‘boxed’ food. They are high in carbs and will clog your system.
Thank you again,
