Trick for reducing Cholesterol: Combine foods!

I can’t say I’m too surprised. I bet you won’t be either!

We’ve all read about individual foods that lower cholesterol. These include soy protein, plant sterol enriched margarine, oats, barley and almonds. Professor David Jenkins of the University of Toronto decided to study a diet where people ate all these foods instead of just one of them. It turns out eating the full range of cholesterol lowering foods lowers cholesterol more than eating only one.

I bet the varied diet was a lot less boring too!

Usually, these heart healthy diets sound a bit difficult to follow. However, this one can’t be too difficult to follow because after 12 months, patients stuck with it and lowered their cholesterol levels by more than 20 per cent. This is similar to the reduction level possible with statins.

You don’t have to take a pill. My cholesterol is low, but this is great news for people with high cholesterol!

  1. Great post. I actually was going to blog on some of these topics or I’ve already written some articles about them. So for obvious reasons, I really like your approach.
