Start Your Meals with Soup to Eat Less.

A new study by the Penn State nutritionists shows starting a meal with any type of low-calorie soup can help you cut back on the number of calories you eat during the meal.

The researchers had already discovered that eating soup helped cut calories, and this time, they focused on the type of soup. Does it matter if the soup is blended? Chunky? So, they tested soups made with separate broth and vegetables, chunky vegetable soup, chunky-pureed vegetable soup, and pureed vegetable soup.

It turns out the form of the soup doesn’t matter — as long as the soup is low calorie, it will help you eat less when the next courses follow.

This is one more piece of evidence supporting the idea used in the Volumetric diet plan: eat high volume, low energy density food to feel full and you’ll eat less.
