Postmenapausal? Want to stay slim?
Or do you at least to find something other than a drastic diet or exercise program that helps you gain less weight? A recent research study. lead by Bette Caan of Kaiser Permanente found that postmenopausal women who take calcium and vitamin D gain slightly less weight than women who don’t take the supplements.
But before you get excited, “slightly” means very slightly. At the end of the study, the women taking supplements gained 0.28 lbs less than the other women. Also, the effect was observed in women whose calcium intake fell below the recommended level prior to the study.
The lead researcher doesn’t advise taking calcium specifically for weight loss. She does advise taking enough calcium for a variety of reasons!
So, do get enough calcium, but don’t count on calcium pills working like some magic bullet.
