My three tips for healthy eating!

I keep finding ten tips for healthy eating everywhere. But you know, those lists repeat the same tip a couple of times. So I edited lists down to the three I plan to memorize and concentrate on. Here goes!

  1. Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Whole grains take longer to digest and usually contain more nutrients than refined foods. Fruits and veggies are nutrient packed and have low energy densities (which really fits into a Volumetrics diet approach.) So, add more of these to your diet.
  2. Don’t eliminate any food group, just eat moderate portions.

Remember: unless you have a specific medical problem, you can eat nearly anything and stay slim. The problem is you can’t eat unlimited quantities. So cut that cake into 10 slices instead of 6 and eat only one. Use some of my portion control tricks to make sure there’s only enough meat loaf for 2 on a table set for 2!

  3. Make changes gradually. Don’t kid yourself. You aren’t going enjoy switching from eating cake, bacon, whole milk, cream and chocolate covered strawberries every day to eating nothing but salad and sprouts. Try going slowly: This week, add an extra vegetable and reduce portions. Next week, substitute fruit for dessert (if you eat dessert.) Whatever you eat too much of, try to be moderate. And this goes for exercise too. If you are a slug, start walking. You can run the marathon next year

  1. Yeah… you know, when I switch what I eat, I go gung ho crazy, then a year later I just want my chocolate. :)
