Drat: Getting Drunk Increases Women’s Heart Attack Risk!
News that surprises no one: Getting drunk ain’t good for you.
A study by Dr. Joan Dorn of University of Buffalo specifically shows that getting drunk once a month or more sharply increases the risk a woman will have a fatal heart attack; moderate alcohol consumption lowers the risk.
Let’s get down to some details:
- Women who drank less than one drink a day, had significantly lower risk of heart attack than tea totaling abstainers.
- Women who drank, three drinks a day, or daily had about half the risk as abstainers.
- Women who were intoxicated at least once a month had triple the risk of abstaners.
So, drinking is fine for your heart– but only if you drink in moderation.
