Cardio Kills?

Jim Karas is preaching “Cardio Kills”. Don’t you believe it!

Sure, exercise gurus probably emphasized cardio and neglected strength training starting in the 70’s. All those fitness fans doing nothing but running? Well, the running was good for you, but a little strength training would round out their programs. It would help women in aerobics classes retain muscles. And the strength training let’s you keep some muscles, which burns fat all day. So, you stay slimmer when doing some strength training.

But does this mean “Cardio Kills”? Well, not according to exercise physiologist and director of the weight-loss program at the New York Obesity Research Center at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Richard Weil; ABC News reports he is “flabbergasted” anyone would suggest that.

The fact is, research consistently shows people need at least some aerobic exercise to keep heart disease at bay. And the easiest way to get your blood flowing quickly and your heart pumping a large volume of blood is to do some cardio. Walking, running, cycling, jumping rope and swimming are cardio and they certainly don’t kill.

Do strength training and keep up the cardio!

  1. I think Mr. Karas is just trying to stir up publicity for himself. He doesn’t even have a fitness or health related background or degree. The statement that Cardio Kills is obsurd.
