Acomplia: Miracle Obesity Pill?

Well, maybe not. Evidently, in March 2004, Sanofi-Aventis SA reported on data for Aventia, a hoped for “miracle obesity pill” which promised to help people shed pounds while raising good cholesterol and cutting diabetes risk. But, now three years later, the drug is still not approved by the FDA. Side effects appear to include depression and anxiety.

The FDA has scheduled a meeting with it’s outside advisors for June 13 to review the safety and efficacy of the drug. So, I guess we’ll hear more then.
