The lined version worked. I’ll probably only make myself lined ones from now on. The lined version can be knit almost as quickly as unlined mittens because you just knit to the top, switch to plain circular knitting and knit the lining. (The lining is green by the way.).
Also, as I mentioned yesterday, after knitting the first mitten, I modified the code to make these longer than before. You can see they cover my wrists now.
Like traditional, “Lovikka” mittens, these don’t cinch in at the wrist. If you want yours to cinch in a bit, you can set the machine to a tighter setting for the the first few rows before the thumb, and increase the tension as you reach the thumb.
Of course, you could also replace the rolled trim with ribbing, which would tighten the wrist right up. But, you’d need to transfer stitches from one bed to another, and also take half the stitches off and rehang when you switch from ribbing to stockinette. I hate rehanging; that’s why I decided to code the roll trim.
At some point, I’ll probably go ahead and code the mittens with ribbing. After all, ribbing is conventional and popular, so I suspect people will want that option.
The new doubled thick mitten pattern generator is available now. You can chart your version at the Machine Knit Mittens page.

I like the idea of those mittens. Did you make the thumb so that the mittens were
interchangeable so that a replacement could be readily made for a lost one ? I do
recall that those ‘double’ mittens never seemed to get wet - even when we threw slushy
snowballs at each other. NFT

I looked at the argyle socks. How many hours go into making them? We used to knit them
for our beaux and we carried a thin strand of synthetic in the heel to reinforce them.
As I recall, there was also a special stitch, too, for the heel. NFT

No, this mittens is not interchangable. With the thumb coming out of the bottom, that doesn’t work out. My felted and two needle mittens are interchangable because the thumbs come right out the side.
The Argyles took forever. I don’t even remember! Actually, they didn’t take forever, but it seemed like a long time to me because they are so small and I was trying to make sure the pattern didn’t have typos. I don’t think I’m ever knitting socks by hand again! I’m just not a “hand knit socks” kind of gal.
