The Knitting Fiend

Mom was true to her word!

But then, she generally is. Some of you read that Mom’s friend Jill gave me her stash, which Mom delivered just before Thanksgiving. Mom also visited me a bit after Thanksgiving. I showed her may cape, and she sat on the couch petting it.

She commented on the softness. She reminisced about mohair capes she wore when she was in high school. She began to quiz me. “How much mohair….?” “How much would I need for a hat?” “Isn’t there mohair in those huge bags….?”

Then, she timidly asked if she could take back the mohair Jill had given her to give me. I decided to bargain hard, and told her sure, as long as she posed in whatever she knit!

She took two balls of grey mohair, and some other yarns. (She’ll pose with those items too. I bargained hard.)

With the grey mohair, she first made her “neck thingy”, which turned out to be a Moebius strip. It’s just 2 x 2 ribbing knit in a long strip. When the piece is as long as the knitter likes it to be, she gives it half a twist and grafts the stitches to seam the strip closed.

After finishing the “neck thingy”, Mom was thrilled to discover she had enough mohair left over to make a roll hat, using my generator.

Now, as a result of my deft bargaining forcing her to pose, you see Mom! She rolled her hat up a lot, the way she likes them; I think she looks pretty cute. But then, she always does.

Even better than looking cute, or posing for my blog, Mom’s back to knitting. She hurt broke her wrist about 7 years ago, and could do nearly nothing with her hand, not even hold a needle! She’s slowly gotten mobility back, and finally found she could knit again last summer. (Can you tell, she’s a pro?)

I’m going to keep her knitting. Maybe soon, I’ll get her to blog!
