This knit up fast. And it’s cute. (At least, I think so.)
I made my hat larger than Rosemary’s machine knit hat and used a yarn warm enough to ward off Chicago’s wintery blasts. Of course, since I wrote a pattern generator, any yarn can be used. But, I’d say, use cotton or wool.
My hat is different from Chick Knit’s Bottom’s Up bucket hat which lots of people are knitting. (Bloggers who knit their hat include: Knitting Fool, Gilneas Knits, Wendy Knits and Knit Chick).
Chick Knit’s very cute hat has garter stitch at the brim, and a ridge at the top. (I wonder if that ridge is a purl bump, or if they have you pick up the tops of the stitches from two rows below? ) Whatever they do, the ridge makes a clean break at the top of the Chick Knit’s hat. It looks looks great. Very refined.
I didn’t design in a ridge, so my hat has a more rounded top. I happen like the rounded top, but maybe it makes mine more like a cloche? I think the smoother transitions make mine sort of feminine. And I like the way the brim just frames my face. ( Rosemary’s hat , knit in lighter weight yarn, looks especially feminine, and she looks like a pixie!)
Cloche or bucket hat, I’m happy with mine. If you want your pattern, go here. As usual, free (with donation requested.)
