I was just going through boxes and found an ancient UFO. It is 20 years old. Yes, 20 years old. Worse yet, the only thing unfinished is binding off the last few stitches on the neck band! Wow!
Ok.. here is the story.. I started the sweater while in grad school. I bought yarn from Elizabeth Zimmernan– yummy Icelandic yarn. I calculated the shape using her formulas in “Knitting Without Tears” , and cast on! Then.. I got caught up in that whole, “finish the thesis” thing, got a job and moved. The sweater went into a box.
It has now emerged from the box. Fortunately, I also found a scrap of yarn to bind off. So, tomorrow I’ll bind off.
What’s your oldest UFO?
Lucia
Added later– I wore this when I took my Mom to the hospital on Tuesday. She laughed when I told her how long it took me to finish!

Lordy, I have no idea! There is a box somewhere that has alot of UFO’s in it. Things I tried and just didn’t like, etc.

I actually wonder… how many some people have now!
I did bind off the last 5 stitches, and tidy up the loose ends. Image…. I actually finished a 20 year old UFO!
It even looks pretty cute!

Sadly, I wouldn’t be able to wear anything I started on 20 years ago. But I think I have a tubeshaped knitted dress with a complicated intarsia of an angel in the back… I need to find it and see if it can be salvaged somehow. Thanks for the inspiration!
