Saint Gertrude1 has smiled sweetly on our house; Biggie has recovered again!
He is still weak, but he’s finally eating and even mooching. The Vet thinks he must not have entirely kicked the blood eating parasite; this time we will treat him for a full month. That means I’ll have to force feed him his Panmycin drops which will make him grumpy for 2 minutes a day; he’ll be his normal sweet self the rest of the time.
Meanwhile, The General, is still robust, sturdy and up to his odd antics.
Jim decided to cook a nice St. Patrick’s day dinner on Saturday. (Yes, a day late). He went to the grocery store, bought ingredients and the corned beef, potatoes and assorted other groceries on the counter.
“Assorted other” included carrots.
Did I ever tell you The General loves carrots?
Yes. General sniffed carrots on the floor, jumped up and said “My Carrots!”
Knowing the carrots were to be peeled, I’m afraid I let him continue to demonstrate his love of carrots for sometime. Yes, he tore small holes in the plastic. I stopped him before he rolled off the counter though.
So, you think, “Come. Cats don’t like carrots! That picture was posed!”
Well, some cats really do love carrots. I had to cloister The General away while Jim peeled the carrots, then we let him have at the peelings. The General would probably have rolled forever. After 2 minutes, Jim had to get on with the business of finishing the vegetable for the St. Pat’s meal. So he told the cat to “vamoose”.
Never one to keep still, The General decided to go inspect some knitting.
This was a bit stressful for me. After all, what with St. Pat’s, recovering Biggie ( preparing our taxes, steam cleaning the rugs because of Biggie, and a pile of stuff from real work) I didn’t have much weekend knitting for him to inspect.
I had flipped through my various pattern books and decided I had enough yarn to chart out a shawl collared sweater in worsted weight. This is lighter in weight than the super cool “Starsky and Hutch” like sweaters I was drooling over last week, but it will still be wonderful. Because I don’t want to risk running out of yarn, I’m knitting in stockinette rather than yarn consuming cables or deep ribs.
I cast on for a sleeve and it’s knitting up beautifully. I’m using the Taiga Deluxe Wool I ordered while in San Juan; I’m using it double stranded.
As you can see, The General approves.
1. St. Gertrude of Nivelles, Patron Saint of Cats. Feast day March 17; the same as St. Patrick!

I’ve known a cat who loved cut corn, and another who adored it on the cob. I’ve known one who loved peas. One had a fascination for grapes. Finding one who loves carrots doesn’t really surprise me.

Gosh, I’d love to see a cat trying to gnaw corn on the cob!
Still, the love of carrots amazes us. Our neighbors son decided to plant carrots last summer. Our cat dashed over and rolled in the carrot tops. (Some of the carrots survived a while. The boy didn’t water them, so they didn’t thrive, but we did try to reign in the cat.)

That web page is so funny! I should have helped The General cover himself with more carrots!

My cat loves tomatoes and will actually growl if you try to part her with a slice. Funniest thing you ever saw!

Glad Biggie is doing better! One of my cats, Diva, loves lettuce. If I fix salad, I have to put a plate over the bowls as they sit on the counter or she will steel the lettuce out of the bowls, little thief. Jeni R
