Some of you may remember Biggie our ordinarily massive black cat. When we returned from San Juan Jim’s Dad reported Biggie was not eating.
Yes, Biggie caught cold. He wasn’t eating or drinking. Once again, his red blood cell count was down and he was breathless if he walked more than 3 steps. The vet thinks his immune system is compromised, and he’ll only be with us one more year.
But while there is life, there is hope, and Biggie wasn’t in pain. We decided to medicate him and do our best. A few days ago, Jim and I were certain he wouldn’t pull through.
Guess what? Biggie surprised us! After a week and a half of laying motionless and only eating when I injected food in his mouth, he suddenly decided to walk around. He decided his favorite place is the couch. Knowing how cats love piles of fiber, we brought him some nice cozy blankies.
He’s sleeping, waking eating and doing much better than we’d hoped. It’s still touch and go, but I’m spoiling him with his favorite foods. If he’ll eat it, I let him have it. To the left, he is eating clams; that’s right, minced clams.
After Biggie ate the clams, he looked at my knitting, then turned and started at me with those big green eyes and said “Why don’t you ever knit me anything?”
Clearly, the green afghan he’s taken over doesn’t count. Nor does the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which he and The General love to play with.
So, I knit him a little “hat.” Doesn’t he look fashionable?

I’m glad Biggie is feeling better. He’s a beautiful cat. And I love his new hat. I’m sure neither one of my cats would sit still long enough for me to put a hat on them!

Well… I have to come clean. It’s really just a swatch!
Normally Biggie wouldn’t still for hat wearing. But hey, he just let me give him a sponge bath.

What a great cat! Good to see he’s feeling better - and yes, give him anything he wants to eat. One of my cats was crazy for turkey, maybe he’d like that.

Sick cats usually handle baby jood jarred meats quite well. A vet once told me it is the perfect food for an ill cat. It is pricey but not as much as minced clams. It is alos very easy for them to digest and get a lot of nutrients from….

I second the baby food idea. My spoiled ‘babies’ prefer Gerber Chicken. My vet said the only thing to watch for in baby food (or any other people food) was onions, which are bad for cats. Luckily, babies don’t like onions, so baby food is generally safe!
