Here’s the Taiga worked swatch worked in stockinet and a mini swatch showing a cable and a bobble. I knit the stockinet swatch last night and the cable one at knit meeting at Barnes and Nobles. I haven’t washed either swatch.
Various people at the group evaluated the yarn. I’m liking this yarn for the sweater design I have hiding in my brain. But, how do people describe yarn? I passed around the swatch at knit group. We pretty much agree it’s “soft” but not “buttery-Alpaca-Cashmere soft”. It’s slightly fuzzy, but not “mohair fuzzy”. More “Shetland fuzzy”.
In other words: Seems like the right thing for many sweaters, probably not what you want if you knit yourself underwear!
Likely, you are wondering about the design in my head? Well, I’m terrible at describing designs before I knit them. For now, let’s just say, it’s going to be a yoke sweater with some cable decorations on the yoke. I might sprinkle some of the decorations in other spots, but right now, I’m leaning toward the cable shown to the right. (Yep, the photo is blurry; I’ll take a better one when I knit a larger swatch. )
To be certain I like this bobble cable, I need to work a few more repeats and also wash to see if the body holds up after washing and drying. (Plus, although you probably can’t tell, I actually goofed up knitting the first one. That’s what I get for working the first repeat while sipping chocolate and yakking with other knitters at Barnes and Nobles!)
Whether I pick this bobble cable or not, I’ll show how to work that bobble tomorrow. And I know some knitters want to learn that, ’cause, I read the recent Vogue Knitting, and it looks like bobbles are in!

The IK preview is being described as “bobbilicious”, too. Oh damnation! I usually alter my sweaters to leave OFF the bobbles. I think I’ll just start sending knitwear mags my list of things I look terrible in so they can just publish directly from it.

Well, my Olympic sweater is going to have bobbles. But, as I think you can see from the swatch, they are small bobbles, and they will be limited in number.
I decided on a name for my sweater “Olympic Circle”. The meaning will become clear in February!
