All blog readers know that photos of yarn are a blogger’s delaying tactic. After all, just how interesting are two balls of sock yarn?
Ok, strangely enough, I will eventually look at this in the future when I have lost the ball band and want to remember some detail about the yarn.
So, here is the overly detailed report on two balls of sock yarn I bought at Zora’s in Naperville:
- Brand: “Smart” which seems to be made by sandnes uldvarefabrik a/s.
- Washing instructions: Machine wash. Wool or careful wash — Max 40 C. No chlorine. Do not tumble dry. Avoid dry cleaning. (BTW, 40 C is is roughly 100 F.)
- Fiber: Superwash wool.
- Weight/Yardage: Fingering- Sock 100 m per 50 grams.
- Made in Norway.
- Color: Says “raspberry”. Norwegian raspberries must be clear bright red.
- Recommended gauge: 22 st = 10 cm on 3 1/3 mm needles. (I will use something smaller. There is no way I will get that gauge on those needles.
Yep. Sock yarn. I’ve never heard of the brand. I will be knitting another pair of mismatched socks. The first pair will have have “short row” toe. ( I will now run off and code the math to knit this toe.) I will decide on the heel turn later. I think the second pair will be knit with “round” toes. (Also known as a type of toe I discovered by surfing, but have never seen!)
Yes, some especially my brothers-in-law and husband may laugh at my mismatched socks; but why knit two identical socks to check a pattern generator?
If you like, suggest some decorations for the sock. Ribbing on the top and leg? Lace? The bottoms need to be smooth, but the tops and legs can be anything. So, give me your opinions — (if you feel like it.)

I think one of my favorite sock patterns is the Blueberry Waffle. On the subject of knitting shops, the last time I was in Naperville, I went to Kool Knits and bought way too much yarn!

Thanks! I’ll look at the blueberry waffle. I guess this would be rasberry waffle, in this color?
Dee in our Barnes and Nobels knitting group works at Kool Knits.

Isn’t that the same company that markets the Solveig Hisdal kits?

I don’t know! I saw a bunch of pattern books with cute patterns by the same company. So, I suspect they are a good outfit. Anyway, sock yarn isn’t a big investment, so I’m happy with the purchase.
