I'm already getting a variety of sock questions / tips / requests in comments and by private email. Some people just want to find the appropriate tip.
So, I thought: "I can save sock knitters time by collecting together links to all my sock articles and posting them in one place." If you can't find a link you want, you can search for books at my Amazon Affiliate Sock Knitting Book List. (Also, if you want to find other people sock links, visit my sock link frenzy.
Here are the current posts:
Lucia's Sock Knitting Patterns, Tips and Techniques.
I'm using WordPress links and a template tag to display these. So, the list will grow as I add to the "my sock links" category. (If a visitor who writes their own knitting blog wants know more about how to display these lists, just ask. )
If you know other sock hints or tips, feel free to add those to comments. I'll look at the sock links you suggest; if I'm curious about the technique, I might try it out myself. Plus, if there are tons of useful techniques off site, I might create an "off site sock knitting tips" category display those.
That would make this page a great general resource for hand knit socks!

You have a wonderful site and your instructions are great! I’m just learning to knit socks after knitting sweaters, caps, mittens, and booties for years. What fun! Your site and knittinghelp.com are my two very favorite places on the internet. Thank you so very much for all your hard work and for sharing your knowledge.

Lucia,
What do you have for children’s socks? There is a little one year old across the hall. Her first words are ” Hi” and
“Sock!” ~ She loves socks! ! I know nothing about sizes, so I don’t know what to put in the simple cuff down sockulator, which I do want to use.
I’ll keep looking for an kids link too.
Thanks so much. You are the best.

Well, I coded childrens foot sizes in my sockulators, but I haven’t tested them on children’s feet. (I don’t have any kids around.)
Other than that, I’m afraid, I don’t have any specific informatoin about kids sock sizes. Have you tried joining sockknitters– the yahoo email group? They might have advise on the best socks for kids.

Dear Lucia,
I have a very narrow foot. My ankle measurement is 7.5. I began on a cuff down sock on Fortissimo Colori sock yarn with 64 stitches, size 2 needles with 7.5 stitches/inch guage. I tried them on half way through the foot and they were so baggy around the ankle and heel. This is a problem I do not see too often. I am thinking about making a shorter sock under the cuff and casting on 52 or 56 stitches. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance if you have time to deal with this. Thanks for a site with such a wealth of info in one place about sock knitting, etc.

thnks using your sockulator, new to socks and knitting in general- not sure in foot measurement when you say from where you picked up heel? do you mean from the original start of the heel flap or the ‘point’ after you decrease the heel and measure from there for length of foot- thanks for any help.

I would like to know how to determine how long to knit the foot of a sock for various foot sizes. Is it 8 inches for size 8 shoe? waht about a size 5 and 1/2? Is it 5 and 1/2 inches knit in the foot of the sock? Can you direct me to a site that can help me?
Many thanks,

Does anyone have apatterns for mens socks, just an ankle sock for inside mining boots.thanks so much for any help

Many times patterns will tell you how many stitches to cast on for a sock, and how many dpns to use, but they don’t tell you how many stitches to place on each needle. Wouldn’t that be important information if the sock has a pattern on it? What should I do?

That top picture of the sock and a half, I did some socks in that very exact same yarn! Too fun. I love the colors.

I really like socks. They are my only friends. Most people laugh at me, by my socks only do what I tell them to do. I think that I will be an astronaut. If that doesn’t work, my fall back will probably be a sock knitter. I hear that they are relatively well paid, is that true? My favorite kind is argyle. People make fun of me because I wear socks like that, but I don’t care. I think that ankle socks are dumb because only dumb people wear ankle socks.
I’d like to go to the zoo, but my mom says that I am too old for things like that. Do you think that 17 is too old for the zoo. I need a friend, please write me. I LOVE MY SOCKS.

socks are totally gross and sick because they go on people’s feet and everyone knows that feet smell like cheese which is gross and cheese is gross. knitted socks are the worst because they make your feet sweat like cheese which is probably why feet smell like cheese that’s what i think anyway. i don’t wear socks and my feet don’t smell but they’re still gross.

Hi, I was reading your post about how to prevent the holes when knitting socks at the heel. Is there by any chance a video so that I can see how this is done. I just can not seem to understand, and would you mind responding to me at my e-mail addy, as I have no idea how I stumbled across your site and I’m afraid I might not be able to find it again in case you do answer my question?
Thank you so very much in advance,

Measure a foot with a known size to see if it means inches. Then if you want to return to a site click on the heart icon for favorites, name a new folder and enter it in. Hope this helps.
