Hoping for the best.

teddy After yesterday’s mitten success, I decided to make a pair of felted mittens. So, I wrote another generator (borrowing extensively from the first). The new generator charts a mitten with a “flanged” hem instead of ribbing. I immediately knit a swatch and felted it with the laundry; charted a mitten based on the felted dimensions and knit it up.

Now, I’m worried. Look at the mitten compared to my hand! Can the mitten possibly shrink that much? Now, I’m wishing I had taken “pre-felted” measurements of the gauge swatch!

So, I’m agonizing: Do I throw one mitten in the laundry before the other? Or do I assume things are working out ok and knit a second one?

If I do the first, then the two mittens will experience slightly different laundry conditions. Maybe I’ll end up with two slightly different sized mittens. That’s not so great. On the other hand, if I’ve I totally messed up, I don’t want to totally messed up mittens!

I think I’ll throw one in the laundry! I’ll tell you what happened tomorrow.
