Pumpkin season is upon us. So, I decided I needed something pumpkinish and decided to surf for pumpkin patterns. Here are some cute patterns I found:
- Sonja at “Fusion Knitting” shows an awesome big felted pumpkin.
- I saw a baby pumpkin decorated with buttons and felt at Crafster. This looks like a fun project for kid.
- I saw two pumpkin hats modeled by a babyand a cat.
- Finally, I saw a sweater and hat set.
- And, not to be forgotten, there’s a pumpkin loot bag!
So, if you need pumpkin paraphernalia, it looks like the patterns exist.
Still, you all know me by now. I need to come up with my own pattern. So I’m working on a pumpkin prototype.
I have figured out how to concoct the with indentations and bulges like a real pumpkin. Mine is knit on single point needles using short rows — like the rat pattern. But, I think I need to have 8 little indentations instead of four. Then, I’ll add some sort of idiot-cord stem.
I’ll be perfecting this over the weekend. Meanwhile, I also need to test felting this to see how that affects the shape. (It should make the pumpkin more squat.)
Oh, I hear you whispering, “What’s with the white pumpkin?” Well, I bought orange koolaid– so you know what that means! When I have this perfected, I’ll post the pattern.

I love that baby hat.
Did you see the felted pumpkins in the Knitty Surprise?

I missed those! They’re pretty cute. I guess that’s what I get for using the blog search tool! .
Hmmm… maybe I need to go get some Orange Cascade. The koolaid is going to be flourescent!
It looks like they have 7 or 8 wedges — but they knit the pumpkin body in pieces and sew. Mine’s knit all in one piece. (I hate sewing!)
We’ll see how my shape turns out after I felt it.

When I did the felted pumpkin, I was going to run lines of single crochet from the bottom to the top, hoping these would draw in and create the ridges when I felted it. But we got in a hurry, since that pumpkin went home with my sister. I haven’t had time to knit the second one!

I think knitting in one piece would be much more pleasant. I loathe the sewing part.
