Marilyn, “The Knitting Curmudgeon” is just flat out wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong! And so are her readers.
Holiday sweaters are the best!
I designed and knit this sweater at 20 years ago. Jim wanted one that complemented the red one I knit myself– which has standing motionless reindeer. We wear them every year at caroling parties where we entertain ourselves and others singing such songs as “Up on the Housetop Reindeer Pause”.
I say: “Oh, so Marilyn and Manolo would prefer us to prance around the piano draped in Faroese shawls, possibly in imitation of the Stevie Nicks? Phfft to that! ”
Here’s my vote:
Let the two of them dress like a pair of ’70s rock stars at Christmas. Heck, I don’t care if they spend all night standing around grousing at other people’s clothes. I’m going to drink spiked eggnog, laugh all night and wear a sweater that sings “Jingle Bells”.

I admit that I love the campiness of the holiday sweater. You can see a not totally cute pic of macy in last year’s storebought holiday sweater. It lights up at the top of the christmas tree.
This year her sweater (to be started after I finish the stockings for my potentially ex girlfriend’s neice and nephew) is going to be pink with a plush snowman. Macy deserves that.

Ohhh! Ohhh! Lights! I think I need to design and knit something to enter Marylin’s Crapalong. Something with lights, funfur, neon yarn, bobbles, intarsia and more!
