It’s so embarrassing. Now, I know I should just be quiet then no one would know. But still. And anyway, I’m a blogger, and bloggers gotta blog!
Ok, so I knit this sweater for Jim. ——–>>
It’s really cute (I think). He loves it; he’s wearing it in Oklahoma right now.
Yeah, you all saw me knit the pockets. And, I also wrote the button distribution calculator to work the buttons. You know, the calculator that Stephanie the Yarn Harlot used to space her buttonholes, and mentioned at her blog.
And, I supposedly wrote a program to cheart a basic crew neck raglan cardigan. The program doesn’t tell you all the details about how to knit the cool cables at the shoulders or insert the pockets, but if you want a plain crew neck raglan cardigan, it was supposed to be useable.
Lucky for me, I didn’t really link the address all over the place. So, presumably few people found the pattern.
Anyway, yesterday, I visited Tricky Tricot and saw a link to MenKnit and upcoming magazine. I thought “I knit men’s stuff. Cool!”
So, I emailed Michael and asked if they are interested in patterns. Based on our email conversation, I decided to run the program and describe some stuff in greater detail. My, the program would give me basic numbers, right?
So… I went to my page. I clicked, printed out the directions and began to tally. Yikes! Something was soooo wrong! I must have not been dividing by two at the neck. W_H_A_T!
Oh… I could tell you what I did as I knit / designed / coded. I wanted to just start knitting. So, I ran the raglan pullover program to do the basic calculations, and wrote some modifications by hand. After all, the only real difference between a pullover and a cardigan is you split the front in half. Well, and subtract a few stitches to make up for the button band which is attached later.
Then, I replicated the code and started to edit the codeas I knit.
But, it turns out, I changed some things but not others . Clearly, I was thinking: “Oh.. I’ll finish that up after the sweater is done. ”
Normally, that would have been just fine.
But, if you all remember, then I went to France on vacation. And later to Wisconsin. So, I obviously hurried up, didn’t really check whether I’d finished, posted things at the site but didn’t really check. Sheesh!
So, basically, some stitch counts were divided by two, and others weren’t! But, the effect for the knitter reading directions would have just been “Huh?!”
I think I’ve fixed stuff now. I think. I’ve got a warning printed. Meanwhile, I will be proofing and tallying number for three sizes.
Meanwhile, I’ve decided to write up a formal pattern with all the details for Jim’s cardigan. Which, I think every guy in America will want to knit and wear.
