My family lived through an earthquake that devastated San Salvador on May 3, 1965. We were lucky, and none of our family members were harmed. Still, some of my earliest memories are those of touring the devastation in the months afterwards, and a dread of quakes remains with me.
Even those who have never lived through an earthquake feel heart wrenching sadness, and helplessness reading about the quake where CNN reports the quake toll tops 30,000.
Meanwhile, El Salvador also suffering from flooding and mudslides after a hit by Hurricane Stan, the eruption of Mt. Ilamatepec and the recent earthquake.
Such sadness.
