Many people have been covering this evolving story: The world was created by a flying spaghetti monster. Evidently, this religious belief is held by numerous Pastafarians, and has inspired great religious fervor, art work and scientific research.
A Mr. Bobby Henderson of Kansas has written the Kansas School board to request the Pastafarian version of “Intelligent Design” be taught along side other versions of the theory of evolution. If you are lucky and Henderson’s site is not overwhelmed, you can read his letter to the Kansas school board, which includes a plot proving a key testable scientific tenet of their religion. That is: global climate change is caused by the declining number of pirates.
I once managed to read Mr. Henderson’s letter to the school board which is posted at http://www.venganza.com . Unfortunately, that host seems to be down today. So, try reading about the story at Wikipedia .
This story is big, so don’t miss it. However, as a knitter, I think the Pastafarians are misguided. The deity is clearly the “Giant Tangled Ball of Wool Monster”.
Immediately after posting, it came to my attention that Boing, Boing has posted a quarter million dollar challenge to prove that Jesus is not the son of the Spaghetti Monster. Other Pastafarians seem to be supporting the challenge.

Where can I buy the T-shirt!?! (You know it ain’t no REAL religion if there isn’t marketing mated to it)
But seriously, I’m off to look for a SpaghettiMonster-Sistine Chapel shirt. Because I have absolutely no sense or money management.

I want a t-shirt too.
I just posted a comment at the site where the image is posted asking about copyright. Maybe if he gives permission, I can upload the image to cafepress.com and make myself one!
I think he’s listed as an economics major. If he owns the copyright, maybe he’ll open a cafepress store, load up the image and make t-shirts! So, either way, the question might result in t-shirts we can buy.

It occurred to me that someone might have already created items at cafe press.com. If you click the links on “art work” in the article, you can visit Mr. Henderson’s store where he is selling spaghetti monster themed items.
