Cafe Press & KBTH

I just received a confirmation notice to subscribe the KBTH-knittingbeyondthehebrides.com list. Whooo hooo!

So, you are all wondering, why the picture of the T-shirt? Well, it’s a long story. Yesterday, a knitflame poster who uses the name “troiscoquettes”1, or “3c” for short, began posting a number of vitriol laden but, somehow incomprehensible, screeds complaining she had been banned from the KBTH email list.

On reading these seemingly endless posts, the following question popped into my head:

What the heck does KBTH mean?

So, I googled and after a few clicks found Knitting Beyond The Hebrides..

That sounded interesting! Better yet, they have a mailing list! Naturally I joined, and have now received a nice “Welcome” message which includes this description:

Welcome to Knitting Beyond the Hebrides, a community of knitters who share a love of gansey, Aran, Fair Isle, and Shetland knitting styles in both traditional and modern form, and an interest in expanding their own knitting abilities through the free exchange of ideas and opinions.

Very intersting indeed. I’m just starting an Aran sweater. It seems I discovered this email list just in time! I guess the incomprehensible rants served a purpose: I, Lucia Liljegren, have found what appears to be an interesting list! Hurrah!

Ok, you’re still thinking “Get to the point! What’s with the t-shirt?”

Design and Sell Merchandise Online for FreeWell, the process of “investigating” the broo-ha-ha, I noticed KBTH had a cafepress store with a range of merchandise. And I learned I can create one too. (So can you; just click the logo at the right. I advise uploading a full size picture for your first practice product.)

I thought, “Why not create my own? I may have practically no artistic ability, but I can type and select fonts, upload the image and use their software to place letters. Surely, knitters will want to walk around with the words ‘Knitting Fiend’ emblazoned on their chest.” So, I opened a store, and created a t-shirt! Whoo-hoo!

Now knitters can buy my fabulous t-shirt! While practicing, I also created a mug with a picture of my cat. If you want to buy my stuff, just click Cafe Press: The Knitting Fiend, and buy, buy, buy. I’m sure both my products will sell like hot cakes!

Naturally, I was also curious to double check the meaning of “trois coquettes”. According to Word Reference.com, “Trois Cocquettes” may translate into either “3 flirts” or “3 cuckoo wrasses“. I currently favor the second interpretation. Note “… the cuckoo has strong teeth, both in the jaws (for biting and rasping) and on the pharyngeal bones in the throat (for gripping and crushing) ….”.

  1. Look what you made me do:

Although I wish I had a larger image of my polar bear. I took that picture at the Brookfield Zoo, and my zoom lens could only do so much.

  2. Your bear is much more artistic than my plain old text. I’m going to have to escalate!

I will teach the cat to knit, take a photograph and put that on a t-shirt.

  3. Ah hah! Well, I redesigned my logo so that you can actually read the text now! Take that!

(Boy, I am so not working today.)

  4. Not only that, but you slapped the design on the messenger bag too. And here I am, wasting time trying to teach the cat to knit!

  5. Wonderful, I will be adding a link to KBTH on my own site. I would not have found this site without your help/article – thanks
