I want your input!

I was thinking . . .
and I’m hoping for feedback, in comments.

Some of you know I slapped together two aggregators this week. They are here my souped knit blogroll and Machine Knit Webring Home Page.

Right now, I have two categories of souped up blogrolls. But, I thought it might be fun to create blogrolls in categories. That way, knitters who like “humorous knitting blogs” can find those, and those who prefer “technical knitting blogs” can find those.

So, maybe readers can suggest categories? I’d put each blog in one or maybe two categories. Sure, I know some technical blogs are sometimes humorous, and some humorous blogs are sometimes technical, but if you are technical 80% of the time, you belong in “technical”. Am I right, or am I right?

So, can anyone suggest categories? Like say:

The question mark is for your suggestion. It could be anything: Also spins? Also crochets? Vents about Bush? Extolls Bush?

That’s an idea. I didn’t know I could think and write at the same time! I’d actually love to have a side by side format with liberals on the left and conservatives on the right! Geeh…. I will do that!

But, I know you readers always have good suggestions. If you think you have one, drop it in comments. Tell me a category and suggest a sample blog that fits. Or, maybe suggest some “side by side” blog rolls. “Christian vs Pagan”?

Once I have suggestions, I can mull them over and see what I can whip up. Thanks in advance. :)

  1. Well that’s a pretty cool thing! (I had no idea I was publishing a feed.) The categories could be just endless, maybe you should just have ones that you like. I like the humor vs technical distinction, but you could also have knit+spin, knit+crochet, knit+whatever else interests you.

  2. Similiar to my del.ico.us tags – and way cool!
    Technical
    humorous
    KALs
    General Crafty
these are the ones that immediately popped into my head, Im sure there are MANY other tags that apply!

This will be another great contribution from the Diet DIary – THANKS!

  3. Most blogs publish feeds. I found your (Sonja’s) feed easily because we both use word press, and their default feed URL is easy to find. (Look at the bottom of my page you’ll find the letters “RSS”. Some of the other sites don’t automatically post the address of the feed so I have to guess.

I didn’t think of KALs! That category needs and aggregator.

  4. Please don’t include politics! I abandon blogs & sites that mix politics with knitting. I find them irritating in the extreme. When I need to politically vent or check out what’s going on & what both sides are saying, I go to a political blog or site. When I visit a knitting blog/site, that’s what I want to read about not whether someone loves/hates Bush or thinks Carl Rove is a political or evil genius. Stick to what you’re good at. Want to talk politics? Start a political blog don’t pollute what the good thing you’ve got going!

  5. Oh, I’m not going to discuss politics at my site! I prefer knitting sites to be about knitting. I know aren’t visiting here to learn my position on the topic I used to blog about at a political blog. (And the people there didn’t go to learn how to cast on and join circular.)

The blog aggragators would be something off on another page the way the current “my favorites” and “machine knitting” blog aggregators are off on another page.

In fact, one of the reasons I’d like to categorize the types of blogs and make separate aggregator, is that way, people who are interested in finding (or avoiding) certain “types” of blogs would have the information. If you want to find a funny blog, go to the “funny ” list of blogs and surf those. Want to avoid the political ones? Stay away from the political ones? Just stay away from the political aggregator.

The alternative is to present one big ” knitting” aggregator. But, then you can’t know ahead of time it’s 50% politics. (Although, right now, few are political. I think most of the politics appeared just before the election, right?)

  6. You wanted suggestions of blogs that fit into catagories, yes?

Crazy Aunt Purl is a MUST for your humor+knitting catagory – she’s wonderful! http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/

  7. Coverting knitting patterns to crochet patterns-There are so many great knits, and not so many crocheted-even just some basic patterns. Also I love one-piece patterns (hate seaming)-the best of which I found through your site-it was for a baby jacket and someday when I get up the courage will try to convert to adult size. Thanks for the best site!
