I was fiddling with “Clove Stitch” and thought, “What the heck, why don’t I just change rows 2 and 4 to all purl?” This stitch ends up similar to “Trinity Stitch”, except, here you work a “(k1, yo, k1) in same stitch”; to work Trinity stitch, work “(k1, p1, k1)” in same stitch.
Naturally, I wanted to see if the realy “Trinity Stitch” looked any different; so I switched to real Trinity stitch. The top of the swatch shows “Trinity Stitch”; the bottom shows “Not Trinity Stitch”. Can you tell the difference between the top and bottom? (I can’t.)
I found “Not Trinity Stitch” easier to work; you can knit it as follows:
- Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches.
- Row 1: Purl. (Right side.)
- Row 2:* (K1, yo, k1) all in same stitch, p3tog; repeat from *.
- Row 3:Purl.
- Row 2:* P3tog, (K1, yo, k1) all in same stitch, ; repeat from *.
I describe how to work the (K1, yo, k1) all in same stitch in “Clove Stitch and Berry Stitch.”
To work “Trinity Stitch”, do this:
- Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches.
- Row 1: Purl. (Right side.)
- Row 2:* (K1, p1, k1) all in same stitch, p3tog; repeat from *.
- Row 3: Purl.
- Row 2:* P3tog, (K1, p1, k1) all in same stitch, ; repeat from *.

I have a pattern where you(K1, P1, K1)all in same stitch. I can’t seem to figure this out. Can someone help?

Hi Adrienne. The (K1, P1, K1) all in one stitch is what Trinity stitch called for, but I has a really really hard time. I *think* I finally managed to do it by
1) knitting into the front loop (that is the normal way) but don’t drop the stitch,
2) then taking the yarn to front, then inserting teh tip as to purl, and then
3)bring the yarn to the back, insert through the *back* loop
But it was a pain in the neck! So, I just changed the p1 to a yarn over. (Yeah, I cheat.)
