I’ve finished the back and sleeves of my shrug. You might remember I decided to cast on at one shoulder, knit across the back and down one sleeve. The photo shows the shrug at that point. It still needs a second sleeve.
I was planning to knit three quarter sleeves. But, when I went to the “Eyes of the Skies” festival, I noticed a woman wearing an elbow length shrug. So, I changed my mind.
Since I’m knitting the sleeves from the top down, it’s easy enough to try the sleeves on and stop knitting when the sleeves are the length I like. And, do remember, I’m using up stash “mystery yarn”, so I’m not worried about having over-purchased yarn!
Since I don’t want a seam at the shoulder, I used a provisional cast on which requires waste yarn. Now that I’m finished with the first sleeve, I’ll pick up stitches from the purl side of the waste yarn, then snip the waste yarn and pull it out. Voila! Stitches!
I showed how to do this in more detail in my earlier article about my cheater’s provisional cast on .
I think I’ll be finished with this tomorrow. And guess what? The Dupage Dinosaurs will be playing baseball at Benedictine University on Friday. Whoo hoo If it’s moderately cool, I’ll wear this shrug. (I can’t imagine I’ll need a full sweater in July.) It’s going to be fun!
Now… normally, I’d end this article here. But I did want to show this photo.
I discovered pieces of mailbox on the lawn yesterday.
We don’t know what happened, but our neighbor reports he heard hooligans at 4 am on July 5th. He saw their car dragging some sort of pole on a chain. He heard police sirens shortly thereafter. We suspect the damage was caused when the pole hit the mailbox.
Why do I suspect some young men got very drunk during the 4th of July festivities?
Luckily, this was a $5 mailbox. Jim replaced it with another $5 mailbox.

Your shrug is looking very pretty. I love the color!

Hopefully your new mailbox doesn’t have bird poop on it (yet)!

Not yet. But, I’m sure it will soon!
I didn’t think it was worth cleaning off since we just removed the whole box and threw it in the trash. Maybe we should have bought a “bird poop” colored box?
