I made a mistake. I plopped an old “Mon Tricot Knit & Crochet”1 magazine on my coffee table. Jim flipped through it. Now, he wants pockets!
I’ve never knit pockets.
Luckily, the picture he saw was in a pattern book. I read the directions; making a pocket looks pretty easy. You basically knit a swatch the desired depth and width of the lining, don’t bind off and put the stitches a holder. When you get to the level where you want the pocket, take the same number of stitches for your swatch width from the sweater body and put them on a holder. Then slide the stitches from the lining onto the needle to replace the body stitches. Then you continue to knit. Later on, you pick up the stitches on the string and knit those to create a trim and sew that down neatly. At some later point, you tack down the inner lining.
You can vary the order you do these things. I’ve knit about 4″ of the body of the sweater, so I maybe starting to do this today. It’s raining miserably. I can’t garden, so I should have plenty of time. Hopefully, this will work out. I’ll take pictures, promise!
Oh. Jim also requested I transform his beard into like the one shown on the handsome Frenchman. Got any tips?
1. I wish this magazine were still available. Heck, I’d subscribe if it were in French! Mon Tricot published a reasonable proportion of wearable men’s patterns. I also have two copies of this old reference book with tips on the shelf: Mon Tricot

Jim’s problem is he gets a bald spot near his cheek! He has a goatee, trims it and looks cute. The full beard just doesn’t work for him.

I’m interested in the Mon Tricot publication. Do you know publishe’s name? I’d love to locate an old “Mon Tricot” crochet stich book. Had one years ago, lent it to friend who never returned it.

Mon Tricot was published by Mon Tricot in France. Unfortunately, they no longer publish, so it’s hard to get their old publications. They were great.
You could set up a search on ebay and see if any old publications ever show up.
