I switch my focus from time to time. But, yes, much of my base traffic is for the sock stuff I wrote over a year ago. It will draw traffic forever which is good. I want knitter who knit socks to find those links.

But right now, it’s haiku!

I alerted Wendy to the number of hits. I think even she is impressed! (She linked to a socks page, so I doubt we’ll see comments here.)

I actually got a comment on my blog thanks to my pitiful comment on your last post. hehehe

Frankly, I think most people go to Wendy’s blog because they are just totally amazed at how fast the woman seems to knit. Makes one really concider knitting monogamy. (So says the woman knitting 2 shawls at once, not to mention the 2 scarves, and 3 sweaters. lmao)

You could view the data like a poll, and assume that the actual traffic figures scale up in roughly the same proportions, but I never believed it.

On the other hand, your site is often linked as a resource on other blogs, and I caught the reference to you in SnB the other day. I happened to find you when I was looking for knitting information, not for knitting blogs. It’s possible that you get a steadier stream of regular traffic than bloggers who probably only see traffic spikes when they post. Aggregated over time, you might actually be more “popular.”

Alexa was bad enough. Then, they instituted a fix, and now it’s WORSE. To talk to the posties (who are also taking ads) I started yet another blog. Read how to juice your Alexa ranking here:

Get your traffic counted.

How do juice your Alexa rank? Scroll down, and see the alexa icon in my footer. Add that to your blog, and Alexa counts ALL your traffic instead of just the traffic from the small fraction of people who add the alexa bar. Since almost no one ads the Alexa icon, because a) it’s work b) it can slow your page load and c) if you don’t want to sell any ads, why would you care? But, if you add it, even a small amount of traffic looks like you get more than WendyKnits or The Yarn Harlot.

I’m still getting loads of hits. There were people up at dawn filling my sitemeter counter with “wendyknits.net” links.I’ll be adding the weekly plot tomorrow so we can see the effect the first full day after she linked.
