You are utterly correct. And as much as I love handknitting, I do own a knitting machine (or at least the el-cheapo craft store version of one, the Bond USM), and use it from time to time to turn out a project that is something I’d like to have as a finished item but would rather not have than (actually, usually, would rather instead shove the needles up under my fingernails than) be required to knit by hand. This certainly qualifies.

Shoot, I want to get a knitting machine so that I might actually finish a sweater for myself. hehe I’ve got 3 or 4 of them in various stages of neglect hidden around my house. hahaha
