Two orange kitties
who love to play with my yarn
will mark my stitches.
See what my friends, Heather, KitKat, Kathy, Doree, Betty and Selena gave me? Heather made the little orange cat stitch markers. Each little kitty sits on a purplish ball of yarn. They are so cute!
The group also found knitting needles with cat face ends at The Knitche! in Downers Grove.
But, I bet you’re all wondering what I actually did for my birthday? Well… not much during the day. Even though Jim took the day off so we could go to the Arboretum, we stayed at home. The weather was terrible. I heard had tornado sirens on Thursday, so you can imagine that was bad. The really horrible weather shifted on Friday — the tornados stayed south of Chicago. But, we still had damp and some drizzle. The weather broke enough that Jim did some yardwork. I mostly did laundry! (Which, honestly, wasn’t so bad. I watched tv and knit a little while the machine did most of the work.)
Fortunately, the evening made up for the day. Jim and I went to out an Indian Restaurant and then went to our dance lessons at Celebrity Dance Studios in Downers Grove. (We live just west in neighboring Lisle, so this is convenient!)
Yep! We’re taking dance lessons. Inspired by “Dancing With The Stars”, (and an ad Jim saw in the newspaper), Jim suggested we take lessons. In mid march, we signed up for an introductory package of 9 private lessons. Our instructor, Mike Davis, is a lot of fun (and kind of a young cutey. I’ll sneak a photo for those of you who are single some time.
)
Jim and I are making tons of progress on the Tango, Fox-trot, Waltz, Rhumba, Cha-cha and Swing. See?
We are nearing the end of that term, so naturally, Bob, the studio manager, went into full sales mode and suggested we sign up for a full program of 45 lessons. We told him we’d think about it (because, really, you can’t just go around signing up for 45 relatively pricey private lessons on the spot) but the fact is, we are planning to sign up for the lessons.
With luck lots of practice, we’ll become splendid competent and I can show you real pictures of us looking like Fred and Ginger whirling on the dance floor!

Ah, I’m sure you guys are doing great in your lessons and that you’ll become splendid and not just competent.
The orange kitties in the first picture are absolutely adorable. I thought they were key chains though until I read on.

That is awesome to hear about your dancing lessons. It is always great to start something new with someone you care about. I won’t lie. I enjoy watching dancing with the stars and I am a man! Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

I took ballroom dance when I was in graduate school, and I loved it. The place I went to had a package which bundled some group classes with a private lesson and a practice party - I think this was the best because I learned to dance with lots of people, not just one partner. Sounds like you are having a great time!
