Trapped on some planet.
Surrounded by ribbon yarn.
Send knitting needles.
Now, y’all know I don’t normally post ‘true art’ since my focus is knitting. But the ribbon yarn around this woman caught my eye.
Ok, I’ll admit it: I don’t think that’s supposed to be ribbon yarn. I don’t think those are supposed to be extra terrestrial leeches attached to her body. I don’t know why she is naked and standing in an odd contorted pose holding her head. Migraine? (The given title, “Encosmic Hearer”, suggests she is supposed to be a tele-path.)
But… whatever….
I’m sure the image is as politically meaningful as a pink fun-fur hand knit sweater for a pug. I’m sure I would comprehend that meaning if I found the pulp science fiction novel that inspired the painting. (Do any of you have any guesses?)
This artwork was perpetrated created by, Robert Yarber, a distinguished professor of art at Penn State University, was mentioned in comments at a post about an political and/or artistic dispute that has erupted in a lawsuit filed by a student against some faculty members at Penn State.

As a PSU student, I’m a little frightened that the university is paying that guy…
As for the lawsuit? That lawsuit is pretty big on campus, since there was a huge outcry last year when the student wasn’t allowed to show his pieces.

Yes. The story is pretty big. I wouldn’t normally blog it, because I do knitting. But this image sort of caught my fancy… because if the “ribbon yarn”!
The story is being discussed from time to time over at Volokh.com. (Eugene Volokh’s specialty is the first amendment, so this is a big topic for him.)
