At knit club, Doree has been working on an entrelac vest using the variegated yarn she dyed at my house. Which got me thinking, “I need something knit in entrelac!” When I got home, I thought… maybe a scarf?
But then, it occurred to me that I like my scarves reversible, and unfortunately, the front of entrelac looks different from the back. Worse, I don’t like the way the reverse stockinette side looks. (Mind you, some people do, but I don’t.)
So, I thought: Why not knit ribbed entrelac? I cast on and started test knitting: Turns out it’s pretty easy! Plus, both sides resemble normal stockinette based entrelac.
So, I’ll be knitting an entrelac scarf . . . but not in this yarn.
When I dyed this, I made very short color bursts; Doree dyed hers using longer color runs. Doree’s long color runs look excellent in intarsia because she gets quite a few rows in each color. In contrast, I get just a few stitches before the color changes; I’ve decided I don’t quite like the way the short runs in this yarn show up in the entrelac. The woven effect of entrelac gets sort of lost.
Time to go hit the stash and find something else!

It looks interesting. I’m not a big fan of the mechanics of enterlac. I HATE picking up stitches. hehehe

I can see what you mean about the color hiding the entrelac texture, but I love the colors!

What about garterlac? (It works… really.)

Second the garter entrelac–you wind up working half the squares in knit, and half the squares in purl, which my little monkey mind finds amusing. The thought, “Now if I shuffle these just right, I’ll have stockinette!” keeps wandering through as I pick up the stitches . . .

Ahh! You mean you have half the squares look like reverse stockinette and half look like stockinette from the each side? That does sound cool!
I’m going to do this ribbing, but I’ll try the other some time.
