Grinding poverty.
I made do with what I had:
dingy scraps of yarn.
Somehow, this picture from Rowan just makes me think of the pictures of migrant farmers taken during the depression. Or maybe she doesn’t have enough money to pay for decent clothes because her house burned down. (It’s a theory anyway.
On the home front, I got a horrible toothache last week; it became unbearable over the weekend. So, yesterday, I visited the dentist. He told me I probably needed a root-canal and gave me a referral to the endodentist. I went there this morning, and had a root canal!
You know, I’d always heard root canals were painful. Not true: the dentist shoots you up with tons of Novocain, and you can’t feel anything. It is a dull boring experience though. The whole procedure took less than an hour, but it seemed like and eternity. Too bad I didn’t bring a sock to knit!
But here’s what is painful; the cost: $970! Good thing I had dental insurance or I’d be wearing dresses knit out of scraps too!

oi bummer about the root canal - I had one last year around this time. Not at all fun but you’re right - not like it’s made out to be.
I wonder if Rowen is somehow being ironic with the name of the collection.
