heliotrope halterHalter or cat toy?

Get your custom pattern for free by visiting the pattern page for my “Spring Break Halter”. The precoded sizes include childrens 2-16 and Misses’s 4-22. Men, don’t be disapponted! If you want a halter, I choose a Misses size and pick the ‘no darts’ option.

According to the “official knitting deities” at Lion Brand, this would be advanced beginner project since the piece is shaped at the sides. Then, I had to really complicate the shaping by adding darts in the interior. Maybe, the interior darts mean this has “more advanced shaping”? Beats me.

I think you can knit this if you are comfortable holding the needles, can knit and purl, can count past 10, can read directions and are willing to try things you haven’t done before.

heliotrope halterIf you want to evaluate whether or not you have the skills to knit this read my recent blogs: Knit the casing and attached I-cord.

I-cord is short for idiot cord; it got it’s name because they way “even an idiot” can knit it; if you can read, and work a knit stitch, you can too.

Knitting the casing takes a bit of coordination. If you’ve advanced far enough to hold the needles comfortably while knitting, I’m sure you can do it. If you’re not sure if you can knit a casing, and don’t want to risk wasting money on one ball of yarn, find some left over yarn and give it a try. If you can knit that casing, you can knit this halter.

Obviously, you need to increase on the sides, so you need to know how to count. But, I gave tips on how to count rows too, remember?

That’s me, modeling. If you’re wondering, I’m holding Max in the picture. I figure all pictures are improved by including a cat.

  1. Hey Lucia
Thanks for commenting on our blog! I appreciate the advice - is sport weight skinnier than DK? BTW, I love the cat paw in the corner of the halter pic…too funny! You should check out the picture of my cat Sal on our site - he looks absolutely dashing in his little chapeau!

  2. Sport is between worsted and fingering. I think DK is between sport and worsted, but usually, on shelves in the US, I see the yarns labeled DK mixed in with worsted.

I checked out Sal. What a cutey!
