I’m on the final stretch.
While working on the lower part of the yoke, I began rounds at the back shoulder. Now, I need to divide for the front neck so I can lower it and avoid the “my sweater chokes me” effect. To keep the number or rows on both sides of the front even, I break the yarn and attach it on the left side of the neck. I always do this on a round when I do need to work decreases to shape the raglans shoulders.
I know many visitors to my site are interested in designing their own stuff. (Otherwise, why visit and use my generators?) I suspect some will ask: If I design my own sweater, can I divide for the neck on a non-decrease round? Can I attach yarn on the right? Or is there some knitting rule about that?
Yes. You can divide when you want and attach the yarn where you want. Nothing will go wrong. However, if you’re following my general shaping directions, and divide using a different organization, you’ll find slight differences between what the directions tell you to do as you finish shaping the neck.
If you are a moderately experienced knitter, you’ll be able to figure out how to deal with the differences. Strangely enough, describing exactly what to do is more difficult than figuring it out and doing it!
Anyway, back to my progress. I’ve attached my yarn on the left, and I’m knitting. I’m hoping to finish soon and model this the day after tomorrow!
