I decided knitting would be easier, just two stitches!boy was I surprised. anyway I am catching on and even though it takes me awhile I did manage a pair of slippers.I just wish I could find an easy sweater pattern that probably would be repetitious to any other knitter. It sure be a blessing for me. thank you again, cherry thank you so much for all the useful information. i crocheted for many many years but a brain injury 15 years ago made me forget all I had learned. Thank you so much for creating this site!! Your calculators have been very helpful for different projects. But I was wondering--is there some way to calculate how much in sq ft or yards a skein of yarn will cover, assuming a simple stich such as garter or stockinette? I found out that 20 inches of yarn, whether in bulky or worsted, knits up to four inches across (I'm not sure if this was coincidence or not). So it seems that one would be able to figure out how much coverage a skein would give based on its thickness and the number of yards. What do you think?? Thank you again for a wonderful site!! Enter 93 stitches to begin; decrease 20 stitches. Then follow the "Balanced" instructions. Decrease Evenly Neman: Use this calculator. Instructions are for felting, BUT I don't want to felt it. I am making it out of cotton/linen, using double yarn, I get 3.5 stitches to the inch, working on 7" needles. The pattern calls for casting on 29 st. I am trying to figure out how to make the size after felting. Size after felting is approx. 9 long x 9 wide at top and 11.5 wide at bottom. I am working with 24 stitches for top and I'm getting 6 1/4 inches wide. It needs to be 9" on top (I'm making it in one piece). How do I figure out how many stitches to start with for the top? I plan on increasing 1 st. each end every inch until 9" and then decreasing 1 st eac end every 1 inch. Can you help me please? Hi - I am trying to make a handbag.
