float above a tartan field;
England beats Scotland.
Which “elite sport” is this woman supposed to be watching?
I’m guessing she knit the sweater during a long boring cricket match between England and Scotland, she’s run out of yarn and is now entertaining herself reading a book.
This sweater pattern designed by Margaret Bruzelius appeared in Vogue Knitting Fall/Winter 1985.

Just making sure I’m really back! My momma would have a fit about this, mixing your patterns, but maybe Mary Englebright made it ok.

I love the bored look on her face. . .
I think some people could get away with wearing that sweater. At *least* the exact colors of the flower portion are picked up in the plaid. Still, it would be difficult to integrate into a wardrobe. (My guess is the few who knit it wore it with black stirrup pants. Likely, the person wearing it didn’t have that “je ne sais quois” required to carry this off.
