Early this week, some marketing went on at the Knit_Design list. Evidently, one of the recent members joined and began to suggest knitting designers should blog to improve their profits.
I say, why limit this idea to designers? Every knitter should blog to about knittings and make millions! I was about to suggest this to my readers when Google sent me a tips about how to attract more and more and more readers, carry more profitable ads, and generate vast wealth by blogging about knitting!1
Naturally, I thought: This is so important! I'll share! So, here is one of the tips in today's email message:
Engage your users with embedded videos.
So, in an attempt to make zillions, I bring you this slightly funny, six minute 16 second long, knitting video which held my attention for about 2 minutes:
Unfortunately, that Google tip doesn't bring me any money. None. It's just supposed to hypnotize knitters, make them love my site and visit over and over!
Now, for another Google tip: way back in January, Google introduced a Beta version of a pack of five downloads that did . . . something. They evidently updated and modified Google Pack based on feed back. They recently released the non-beta version and are promoting the free pack of software.2
Here's my best Madison Avenue schtick: Google Pack sounds kinda' cool! There's a 3-D browser to let you see maps, find hotels and restaurants etc. There is some photo organizer/editing software. Google Desktop is supposed to help you search for files, email etc. on your PC. There is a Google toolbar that does a bunch of things including blocking pop-up ads.
Oh-- the download includes some Norton anti-virus and anti-spyware software!
How do these work? Normally, I'd install and test them, after all, they are free. Unfortunately, I can't download them. The problem? I have a Mac; free software is for PCs only.
But you can! Click to read more:
What? You're still here?!
Clearly, I need better Madison Advetising Schtick!
Oh well...
If my ploy does generate more than $3 in income today, I promise that tomorrow, I will bring you another knitting video!3 I will also report the income generated so you can discover whether this ploy has any money making potential!
1. Well, they don't mention the knitting part. To those hoping to generate a living income running google ads on a knitting blog: Dream on! To generate vast wealth you need to a) create a site that attracts high paying ads and b) attract a lot of traffic. "A lot" of traffic is 1000-3000 times what I attract. "High paying ads" are for the type of products spammers advertise. These don't include knitting yarn, needles, patterns or lessons.
2. Why is it free? Supposedly, Google's intention is to penetrate Microsoft's turf by offering this free stuff.
3. Heck, maybe I'll bring you another video anyway. Maybe I'll find a funny one, who knows?

At first, I had thought the ’star’ was Jim learning to knit but he was sitting on another sofa. I certainly was not captivated - nor imbedded to ask for a re-run.

I’d love to try Google packs - my brother-in-law swears by Picasa - but I use Linux. Come on, Google, where’s the fun in Windows-only software?

Pixies video is way better than the one I posted!
To Kim: Basically I agree. I really want to try the 3-D browser. But, it won’t work on the mac. Sigh!

The video’s not showing up for me; is it the animated one of the chick who knits her hair? I watched it earlier, until the FRIGGIN END, just to get the punch line. I’m still waiting…

Nah! It’s about guy who has a knitting addiction. He is being interviewed about the history of his illness.
The animated one about the chick knitting her hair at least seems promising as you watch it. I watched that to the end too. I kind of liked it– but yes, you expected something to “happen”.

is it just me, or does it seem that for a guy with a knitting addiction, he’s a slow knitter?
