Raglans

The hoodie raglan pattern generator is now available to site visitors.

Admittedly, I don’t have the zipper sewn into my hoodie. So, I still I don’t have a final photo which means announcing the generator seems a bit premature. But, I’ll do it anyway! The program works; if you want to knit the hooded raglan you can.

The code supporting the hoodie pattern generator is the same as for Jim’s raglan. I made three extensions so it can be used to make more than one style. The extensions now let you pull down a toggle:

  • to create a pattern with or without a hood.
  • to create pattern directions for ribbing or a rolled stockinette trim.
  • to select a hung hem or a button front. (The hung hem is suitable for inserting a zipper.)

The adjustment is associated with fit at the shoulders. Visitors won’t notice this change, but I made a small coding change to make sure the shoulders can’t end up too pointy when you knit for slender flat chested women like me.

Ok, I don’t want to explain too much about this “potentially pointy shoulder problem”, because this will just bore people. Suffice it to say that there was a “slightly pointy shoulder” problem if both of the following conditions occurred: a) your stockinette stitches were unusually tall compared to their widths and b) you were knitting for a relatively slender person. Otherwise, the problem could not occur. I fixed it.

Oh, I also fixed those typos that I found, tried to clarify a few things and found and one actual mistake. I said “needle 3″ when I meant “needle 4″. Needless to say, I’m sure the pattern still contains typos, and some things are unclear. I’m deferring a full grammar-spelling check until I’ve coded in the children’s sizes, taken a few photos of some design features and adjusted the schematics for clarity. If you use these right now, and are confused, email me!

Now that the program has so many toggle choices, I created two separate web pages with default toggle setting that match the sweaters modeled by either Jim or me. If you want to imitate either style, just pull down the toggle for you sweater size.

Of course, if you want to fiddle with the toggles and change the style, go ahead. Yep, you can put ribbing on my hoodie or rolled stockinette trim on Jim’s button front raglan. Not a problem.

Anyway, if you have questions, ask. I’ll be knitting yet another raglan, so we might see more features soon.
