I was hoping I would have the body and sleeves on one needle by now. Another inch before I can do that.
At least I did managed to code in the polo neck this morning; so that’s done. Then, I knit a bit. I should be joining the pieces tonight, and hopefully getting at least half way to the neck bind off before I go to bed. Those of you who notice the off white sweater is much larger than the olive one, it’s oversize. My 125 lb, 5′8″ lb Jim just loves the off white one, but I suspect he would have bought a size smaller had it been available.
Back to knitting. Why do these hand knitting projects take so much longer than the machine knits?!

The sweater looks great! I have never had the nerve to use a knitting machine. I bet it knits up much faster on a knitting machine.

Knitting on the machine is faster. However, this particular pattern can’t be knit on the machine because one of the “cool” things is it’s seamless and circular. It’s also in a stitch that is difficult (or impossible) on most machines.
I generally develop hand knit patterns containing elements that are either difficult or impossible on a machine. I don’t know about other people who both knit by hand and machine, but I would really get impatient if I kept thinking ” I could just zing this out on the machine.”

Circular needles are such a boon.I recall
the hostile stares when one dropped a
knitting needle when one worked with a
set of four. They were usually made of
aluminum and resounded when they hit the
floor.
