The 80s are back. The horrible rumor has been confirmed by The Wall Street Journal! Worse, the WSJ provided photographic evidence of leg warmers worn in “full flashdance mode!”
I hear readers saying, “So what! The Wall Street Journal is not a fashion magazine. Their reporters don’t attend designer fashion shows to discover what next year’s trends will be. What do they know?!”
Yes, it’s true the WSJ doesn’t know good fashion from bad. They don’t report on aesthetics. They don’t interview designers to spot the next year’s trends.
No, this business oriented newspaper reports a) what is actually selling in stores and filling cash registers with $$$ and b) what people are actually wearing to work where it might affect their chances for promotion.

That means when the WSJ reports a fashion trend, it’s no longer just a glimmer in designer’s eyes. It’s selling!
I’m afraid if 80s fashions are selling we will all start thinking we need to knit the design shown to the right (which appeared in Vogue Knitting, Fall 2006.) Worse, blog visitors may start bidding up the price of 80s issues of McCall’s Needlework and Crafts on ebay, and then think how much I’ll need to pay to obtain material to support my Haiku habit?
There is a bright side though: Maybe I can sell some of my duplicate issues for big money?

When fashion trends repeat I always react the same way. I hear myself say things like “I will never wear bell bottoms” or “Platform shoes? No effin’ way”. Then, 6 months later I’m sportin’ them. Usually because I become worn down from seeing the styles everywhere and it becomes the new normal. I didn’t mind the leggings. But I don’t necessarily want to repeat the trend. I’m sure in 6 months we’ll be sitting around in our leggings bitchin’ about how the papers say leisure suits coming back. No effin’ way.

No it wasn’t! I don’t know why spamkarma got aggressive on you but it decided to moderate your comment as “suspicious”.

As long as stirrup pants stay in the past we’re good. Wow, those were bad.

They are brilliant. I would never wear them with a skimpy t shirt, but i wear them with dresses or long tops. Why bitch about them?
