It’s a “Gorgonian Shawl.”
Gorgons were monstrous creatures
who turned men to stone.
The Encyclopedia Mythica tells us.
The Gorgons are monstrous creatures covered with impenetrable scales, with hair of living snakes, hands made of brass, sharp fangs and a beard. They live in the ultimate west, near the ocean, and guard the entrance to the underworld.
Is the shawl supposed to remind us of intertwining snakes? Sometimes classical education can result in profound obscurity.
Note: Oops! Turns out this is my mystake. As an adjective, Gorgonian can mean “Pertaining to, or resembling, a Gorgon; terrifying into stone; terrific.” 1but this shawl is named after sea creatures found on coral reefs. Evidently, the word generally refers to them.
I googled images and found this one at NOAH.
(I also edited the Haiku to say “Gorgonian.” )
Credits: The shawl pattern is available at Morehouse Farm. They have lots of cute patterns.

Given the title, I was kind of expecting snake-like i-cord tassels or something!

Hi,
Morehouse Gorgonian Shawl is NOT named after
the 3 sisters with snakes as hair, but
is named after Gorgonian Sea Fans!

But aren’t the Sea Fans named after the 3 sisters with snakes as hair? I wonder.

I don’t actually know if the Gorgonians” are named for The Gorgons– but I suspect they are! After all, the sea fans live in the sea, look like snakelike wigs and– if I understood correct– they have or form a horny skeleton.
That makes them sort of “Gorgon-like”!
