Gosh, I am so glad you are doing this! I just logged on looking for some help because I couldn't figure out the original, or if I was doing it right all along, and by george here you are going over the whole thing. Thank you so much. This is really helpful, exactly what I needed, and the pattern is well worth it.

I am excited, I have some Kelly Green and some White Baby Ull looking for a pattern. Since I have a friend who is so Irish she has shamrock curtains year round, I think I am discovering what this yarn is destined to become.

Keep us posted and don't get tooo frustrated.

I'm using a ridiculous yarn right now: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. (I want to give Jim a pair of luxury socks just for going out!) We both like thick socks, so Aran weight is fine for us.

I used JaggerSpun mainline for the first pair I made. That's fingering weight-- which many would prefer. (But you have to hand wash.)

I recommend anything solid and some wool content so it's elastic enough for socks. Because of the possible potential frustration involved with your first pair I recommend something fairly robust that can deal with some ripping! I also like the yarn to be machine washable-- though I put them in a special bag, wash on delicate and air dry, but I just don't want to hand wash 14 socks a week! (For two people.)

Some nylon content is good too-- it wears better.

What kind of yarn do you use for knitting argyles? I've only done one sock and it was self striping yarn.

I may be up for this, since it won't happen for 3 or 4 weeks. No promises, life keeps trying to kick my butt, but I'm going to try. I really want to do argyle socks.
